2 / 14th Australian Field Regiment
23rd Brigade 8th Division
Formed in 1940 as a field artillery support unit for the 23rd Infantry Brigade under the initial command of Lt. Col. H. B. (Jan) Sewell MC, with full strength of 730 officers and other ranks and 24 field guns.
During service in Darwin the unit experienced the first 50 of the 64 air raids on this small town of the time.
The unit later served and saw action in New Guinea and New Britain form December 1943 to December 1945.
This plaque is dedicated to the memory of those men who made the supreme sacrifice and to the 1,270 men who passed through its ranks, and was unveiled in the presence of Association members on 11th November 2005.
