Commemorating Australian Merchant Navy
In honour of all the Merchant Seamen who paid the supreme sacrifice in unarmed ships that ran the gauntlet in war zones carrying supplies and cargoes and transferring wounded around the Australian coastline.
Fifty-one vessels were sunk and another 25 chased or attacked including vessels which carried steelmaking cargoes between Whyalla and NSW
