The monument commemorates those who served in World War One.
For the first time since his arrival in the State the Tatiara district was officially visited by his Excellency the Governor (Sir Tom Bridges) yesterday, when he performed the ceremony of unveiling the memorial to those 51 members of the Wolseley district who enlisted in the war, of whom nine were killed or died on service.
The proposal for the erection of the memorial was first mooted soon after the Armistice but it was decided that the matter should be postponed for a while in order not to clash with the building of the District Memorial Hospital at Bordertown. The memorial, which consists of a life-size marble statue of an A.I.F. Infantry soldier, resting on his arms reversed, stands on a pedestal about 8 ft. high, and cost £278, the majority of which has been raised by local subscriptions.
