Young & District Band Memorial Print Page Print this page

Photographs supplied by Arthur Garland

The District Band Memorial consists pillars at the entrance of Carrington Park erected to commemorate members of the Young and District Band who served in World War One.

The right pillar is dedicated in memory of Arthur Lee and Frederick Dirou who died in the conflict. The left pillar contains a marble honour roll of band members who served in that conflict.

On Sunday afternoon next the Young Town Band will play a special programme in the Young Park. A collection will be taken up at the gates, the proceeds will be devoted to a memorial and honor roll to the memory of the late Drum Major Arthur Lee who was killed at the front. The new uniforms will be worn by bandsmen for the first time and the band will march from the old drill hall to the Park. A large crowd is expected to be present.
