The Avenue of Honour commemorates the soldiers from West Tamworth who enlisted in World War One.
The Avenue of Honor, in memory of soldiers who have enlisted from West Tamworth, will be officially opened this afternoon. Proceedings will open with a procession from the school; headed by returned soldiers and the mothers of soldiers who have gone to serve their country; the Model Band and the Tamworth District Band, and the children from the West Tamworth and Westdale schools. The route of the procession will be along Ebsworth-street, thence up to Gipps-street, where the avenue has been planted to the site of the proposed monument. The Mayor will welcome the visitors and will subsequently plant the first tree. The others will be planted by the mothers of the boys from the West. Lieut.-Colonel Abbott will be unable to attend owing to Parliamentary duties, while Messrs. Arthur, M.L.A., and Fitzgerald, M.L.C., will also be unable to attend.
