The sculpture commemorates those who have lost their lives on peacekeeping and peacemaking operations, and also recognises the contribution and commitment of military, police and civilians who are serving overseas.

The timber sculpture features a soldier rescuing a child. It was created by Vietnam veteran Bernie Tarr of Geeveston.
