The Memorial Club was erected to commemorate those who served in conflicts in which Australia has been involved. 

Walgett had the pleasure and honour of entertaining Lt. General Bennett, C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O., V.D., recently, and the General reciprocated by opening Walgett's £75,000 War Memorial Hall and Club. On Wednesday March 25, Butler Air Transport diverted a plane to land Lt.-General Bennet who was due in Walgett to open the Memorial Hall.
